I have always been inspired and interested in geometrical shapes and abstract forms in urban spaces that many fail to notice. There are various perspectives in life, hidden within layers of complex thoughts, which we are both familiar and yet unfamiliar with. Upon an observation towards an uninterpreted urban vernacular, we discover a foreign world layered with playness of palettes, shapes, textures and patterns.
Layers is a visual deconstruction of urban fabrics in Kuala Lumpur (KL) where the assembly of unpleasing concrete layers unexpectedly collages an expressive aesthetic. Arrayed by graphical composition, it documents hidden details of KL’s dazzling tapestry of architectural styles in which the lines, shapes, forms, colours and textures are interacting with one another. This saturated visual feast creates an illusion for a polychromatic fantasy beyond reality through ‘risograph’—a printing technique known for the missed and matched layering of striking colours. The outcome awesomely forms a distinctive expression of never-ending formation of KL’s deconstructed architectural wonders to admire.
